In response to the surge in AI-generated voice cloning scams, the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) has published an open specification for real-time cryptographic acoustic watermarking.
Cryptographic Attestation for Voice Streams
The standard embeds imperceptible, cryptographically signed metadata directly into the frequency domain of synthesized or authentic audio. Compatible communication platforms, banking hotlines, and call centers can instantly verify whether an incoming voice stream originates from an authenticated human speaker or an authorized neural synthesizer.
