Docker Inc. has announced the general availability of native WebAssembly workload support in Docker Desktop, powered by the WasmEdge runtime.

Rather than packaging an entire Linux guest kernel and base OS userspace into a 500MB container image, developers can package standalone WASM component binaries into 12MB OCI images. The resulting containers execute with immediate cold-start latencies below 5 milliseconds, consuming up to 90% less host memory.
