Google Chrome Ships Built-in Prompt API in Stable Channel for Offline AI Tasks
Chrome 138 brings the Prompt API to stable release, enabling web applications to access Gemini Nano locally in JavaScript without API keys or third-party cloud connections.
Google has announced the general availability of the window.ai Prompt API in Chrome 138, marking a monumental shift in web application capabilities.
Web applications can now initiate local inference sessions with Gemini Nano using a standardized promise-based JavaScript API:
const session = await window.ai.createTextSession();
const result = await session.prompt("Explain UUIDv7 advantages");
console.log(result);
Because computation executes against a locally installed model on the host OS, web applications can provide intelligent autocomplete, formatting, and analysis without requiring developers to maintain expensive backend API proxies.
