Bytecode Alliance Publishes WASM Component Model 2.0 for Cross-Language Interop
The Bytecode Alliance has finalized WASM Component Model 2.0, establishing zero-overhead data marshalling between Rust, C++, Go, and JavaScript web applications.
The Bytecode Alliance announced the release of the WebAssembly Component Model 2.0 specification today, solving the long-standing challenge of passing complex types between isolated WASM modules and host JavaScript environments.
Using the Canonical ABI and WebAssembly Interface Type (WIT) declarations, components compiled from Rust, C++, and Go can now seamlessly exchange structured records, strings, and byte streams without serializing through manual JSON or pointer memory scraping.
This development paves the way for sophisticated image encoders, audio analyzers, and mathematical utilities to execute in the browser with native C-level performance.
